Rumour has it that PlayStation owners will see more games this year that have so far only been available on Microsoft platforms. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a certainty, Archaeologist will arrive around spring, and Doom will be ready on release day: The Dark Ages. The latest reports point to other pieces. Insider Nate the Hate has reported that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo will be coming this year: The Master Chief Collection. In addition, both titles are also apparently headed to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Another insider, namely Jez Corden, subsequently followed up the report. The journalist confirmed that he had received the same information, pointing to a couple of other games that are set to launch on Sony’s consoles. Apparently, these include Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology and the Ultimate Edition of the first Gears of War. Corden added that they could theoretically come out on the new Switch as well, but he’s not sure. Microsoft will then acquire the Final Fantasy-branded games in return. Specifically, it will be the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, according to unconfirmed reports, arriving on Xbox later this year. Then next year, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will reportedly arrive.

We’re not exaggerating when we write that the success or failure of Samurai Assassin’s Creed Shadows will determine what happens to Ubisoft itself. The game’s release is thus delayed for another couple of weeks, according to Ubisoft’s press release. The company has had two bad moments in the past year in its list of the biggest screw-ups of 2024 – Star Wars Outlaws included. It talks about selling all or part of the company and whether the Guillemot family, who founded the company in the 1980s, will remain at the forefront.

Japan Troubles of Ubisoft

They are to be saved by Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan. The Assassin’s Creed brand has been a reliable money-maker in recent years, with Viking Valhalla (2020), for example, grossing more than $1 billion. It’s just that the announcement of Shadows wasn’t received with enthusiasm by some gamers. Many are shaking their heads as to why the main character is a black samurai named Yasuke who massacres Japanese people to the sound of hip-hop music. Then, however, the Japanese themselves joined in, who also did not receive the game warmly at all. They noticed serious errors in the architecture, coats of arms or etiquette, and Ubisoft even apologized to the Japanese players. Although Yasuke did exist, the story about him being a samurai is made up.

Bugs Prevented Earlier Release

Ubisoft is betting everything it has on this one card and is clearly trying to salvage it. For example, it dropped the seasson pass and the game will also head to Steam on release day. Furthermore, management has decided to postpone it from November to February. According to internal information, the game was quite buggy and there were also going to be some adjustments to passages that players would perceive as problematic. However, the developers need even more time, so the release has been pushed back again, this time to March 20. “We’ve been happily sharing our progress through Gameplay Overviews videos since November, and the overwhelming enthusiasm has really inspired us. Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community. While we have already made remarkable progress, we believe we need a few more weeks to implement this feedback and deliver an even more ambitious and engaging experience on release day,” says Ubisoft.

Shadows in March

It’s clear that with some gamers, Ubisoft has already missed its chance and won’t buy the game even if it turns out to be one of its best titles. That’s just the way it is. Maybe Ubisoft doesn’t want Shadows to come out in the same month as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which is garnering very positive reviews ahead of its release. On the other hand, a solid indicator of success is the number of pre-orders, and those are very respectable, according to various sources. In fact, those who pre-order the game not only get the bonus quest for free, but also the first planned, roughly ten-hour expansion Claws of Awaji. Whatever the outcome, Shadows in March will certainly be a better game than the one in November.

During CES 2025, Neil Druckman, one of the creators of The Last of Us (both the game and the series), unveiled a new trailer and announced when the second season of the post-apocalyptic series will arrive. It will be released on HBO and MAX in April and will have seven episodes, but no exact date yet. The anticipated second season is expected to cover only part of the plot of the second game, the entire story will be split into two or more seasons, according to an interview with the creators last year. “We don’t think we’ll be able to tell the whole story in two seasons because we’re taking our time and exploring interesting avenues,” said showrunner Craig Mazin

Along with the upcoming release date for The Last of Us, Sony has also announced plans to adapt other titles in the PlayStation portfolio. Ghost of Tsushima is said to be getting an anime series, and Horizon Zero Dawn will get its own movie alongside Helldivers 2. We’ll have to wait for more details, though. Apparently, spring will be in the spirit of The Last of Us. The Last of Us Part II Remastered will get its own PC port in early April.

US company Electronic Arts has updated the list of titles that will have their servers shut down in 2025. This is due to reduced player interest, server maintenance costs and the age of the games in question. This year, the following thirteen titles will go offline for the above reasons.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out (24 January)
Blood & Glory Immortals (29 January)
Contract Killer: Sniper (January 29)
Deer Hunter Classic (January 29)
Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores (January 29)

UFC 3 (February 17)
EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 (March 13)
NCAA 14 (March 13)
Madden NFL 21 (June 30)

Since we’re at the very beginning of 2025, it’s possible that the list will be expanded to include more titles from Electronic Arts in the coming months.

Resident Evil 4 Remake – Fastest Selling Game in the Series

That Capcom has struck a golden vein with the Resident Evil remakes has long been clear. The remake of the fourth installment is by far the fastest-selling Resident Evil game in the series, and in a short period of time, it’s made it onto the Japanese company’s best-selling games list. Capcom reports more than 9 million copies. With such success, Resident Evil 4 Remake could eventually match other remakes of old classics. The Resident Evil 2 remake has racked up around 14 million copies since January 2019, and the third installment since it was released in April 2020 has racked up roughly 9 million sales.

It’s no surprise that the director of the remake of the fourth installment would want to bring more remakes to current gamers. In the meantime, a full-fledged new installment is in the works under the supervision of Koshio Nakanishi, who is the man behind the highly successful Resident Evil 7 which is also a big seller. Over 14 million copies since its release in January 2017.
