Sony’s Focus on PlayStation 5 Pro Amid Next-Gen Plans
Sony’s marketing campaign is now focusing on the PlayStation 5 Pro. But behind the scenes, preparations are underway for the next generation console. The PlayStation 6 is set to be sold in two different models. That’s according to leaker Kepler, who can’t say what Sony will use the two different SoCs (integrated circuit with processor and graphics chip) for. One possibility is two differently priced models, along the lines of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The other is a standard home console, complemented by a handheld or a hybrid console like the highly successful Nintendo Switch. Only time will tell.
The Future of Handheld Gaming and Market Competition
A handheld would make sense, though. Sony has verified the interest of gamers through the PlayStation Portal. Plus, Microsoft has been planning one for a long time. A competitor is taking a more diversified approach. It wants gamers to be able to play wherever they want. And that’s where a portable device fits in. So Xbox may roll out a new generation in two years, including a traditional console and a Steam Deck-style handheld. Or perhaps there will be three?
Upcoming Milestones: Xbox’s 25th Anniversary and New Generations
November 15, 2026, will mark 25 years since the first Xbox was released. Rumor has it that Microsoft won’t miss this opportunity and will release a new console generation, having resigned to a cross-generational piece. After all, representatives of the American company have previously confirmed the preparation of a successor. If Xbox will indeed offer a new generation of consoles in 2026, experts are curious to see what Sony will do. After all, the latter is releasing the PS5 Pro this year and wants the PS6 in 2028. Will two years leave Microsoft a free field?
