Following a massive leak of data and information from Insomniac Games earlier this year, talk began about a PC version and a leaked feature build of the second Spider-Man. It didn’t take long for a named “unofficial PC port” of the award-winning game to be released, but it’s not officially available on PC. For many months, we could only watch as the “fan-made,” but more accurately pirated PC version lived its own life while Sony just stood by. However, that is no longer the case, as suggested by Tech4Gamers magazine or the PlayStation Countdown Twitter account, which deals with information about Sony and its console.
Sony Takes Legal Action Against Unofficial Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Build Distributors
“Sony has taken legal action against those who published and illegally distributed an unofficial build of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC,” the Twitter account states. Tech4Gamers magazine then repeats the information but adds no more details or a source that says this is happening. The fact is, however, that in our backtracking through videos and information about the leaked build, we came across many deleted articles, videos, and entire YouTube channels that regularly reported on the development of the build and helped spread it to gamers. So it’s likely that Sony is taking concrete steps, which is reflected, among other things, in that the PC build isn’t located where it could be downloaded.
Insider Speculations on Spider-Man 2 PC Version and Upcoming State of Play Announcement
The situation was also responded to by insider Nick Baker, who believes that the change around the leaked PC build may mean Sony is preparing to announce an official PC version. “Why would they decide to just react like that after eight months,” Baker alludes to the fact that Sony has been unexpectedly lazy and, at least on the outside, seemed unbothered by the leak, and it must be an added, fully functional version. According to Baker, the PC version of Spider-Man 2 is expected to be announced at the next State of Play, which, while not announced, some insiders have hinted should take place during September. Startling Ignsu insider and journalist Jeff Grubb spoke explicitly about the State of Play, which is expected to include talk of the PS5 Pro, among other things, and even more specifically on September 19 or 20. So we’ll see.
