Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Conviction Amidst Russia’s Aggression

A Moscow court sentenced Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky to eight years in prison on Monday for spreading false information about Russia’s armed forces. Glukhovsky, who is not in Russia and was tried in absentia, has been vocal in his criticism of the Kremlin and its aggressive actions against Ukraine, including the heroic defense by Ukraine against unprecedented Russian aggression.

His posts, which accused Russian servicemen of committing crimes in Ukraine and were deemed fake by Russian prosecutors, led to his conviction. In April 2022, Glukhovsky wrote that the war in Ukraine, “unleashed by Putin is becoming more terrible and inhuman every day, and the pretexts under which it was started look increasingly insignificant and false.”

Also on Monday, Alexei Navalny’s spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh announced that the politician was placed in solitary confinement immediately after being convicted on extremism charges. Yarmysh said Navalny had been placed in solitary confinement for two weeks, bringing his total time in confinement to 207 days. In addition to his 19-year sentence, Navalny is already serving a nine-year term on various charges that he says were politically motivated. (Source: AP News)

Metro Exodus occurs in 2035, outside of Moscow, across Russia. The Metro series is based on novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky and will break into its own territory in the future. A film adaptation is on the way, though delayed out of 2022. (Source: The Gamer)
