“F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch” is an action-platformer game that was released in September 2021. Developed by TiGames and published by Bilibili, this game falls into the Metroidvania genre, which is known for its exploration, backtracking, and the gradual acquisition of abilities that allow us to access previously unreachable areas. In “F.I.S.T.,” you take on the role of Rayton, a rabbit armed with a massive mechanical fist, drill, and my favorite the whip called “The Whisker” (acts as a grappling hook also), battling through a dieselpunk world filled with robotic enemies and intricate traps.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch Boss Fight Compilation – Best Moments & Highlights!

A World Forged in Detail

Right off the bat, what I really love and appreciate about F.I.S.T. is its beautifully crafted world. The game is set in Torch City, a place that feels alive with its detailed backgrounds and dynamic environments. The dieselpunk aesthetic is not just a backdrop but an integral part of the game’s atmosphere. The attention to detail in the graphics is impressive. Each area has a unique look and feel, from the dark, oppressive factories to the neon-lit streets, and my ultimate favorite cat’s sanctuary. The lighting effects, in particular, are outstanding, adding depth and a sense of realism to the environment. Check out my Boss Fights compilation video below!

Mastering Mechanics and Combat

The gameplay mechanics in “F.I.S.T.” are a perfect blend of familiar platformer elements and fresh, innovative ideas. The game is about exploration and combat. As Rayton, you navigate through various interconnected areas, fighting enemies, solving puzzles, and collecting upgrades. The game encourages backtracking, as new abilities often open up previously inaccessible paths. This is a hallmark of the genre, and “F.I.S.T.” executes it flawlessly if you ask me. Combat in “F.I.S.T.” is both challenging and rewarding. Rayton’s primary weapon is the mechanical fist at first, which can be upgraded and modified as you progress. There are three main weapons in the game: the Fist, the Drill, and the Whip. Each weapon has its unique moves and abilities, and mastering them is crucial for overcoming the game’s tougher enemies and bosses.

Whip It Good: Combat Highlights

My personal favorite is the Whip, which acts like a grapple hook as well. This weapon allows for fast and fluid combat, letting you zip around the screen and attack enemies from a distance. It adds a layer of strategy to the fights, and once I unlocked it, I only used other weapons if I really had to. The whip is so much fun, it’s a pity you don’t have it from the beginning. The bosses in “F.I.S.T.” are a highlight of the game. Each one has unique mechanics and requires different strategies to defeat.

They are tough, often requiring multiple attempts to learn their patterns and find the best way to take them down. Each defeat feels like a learning experience, and each victory is incredibly satisfying. Few bosses were too easy, like the underwater Bloodsnail, but at the same time very unique, since you fight him underwater. On the other hand, some bosses I was stuck on for quite some time. Which I absolutely loved!

A Symphony of Sound and Story

The game is a single-player game with no multiplayer aspects at all. As you progress, you uncover more about Torch City and the characters that inhabit it. There are also plenty of hidden areas to explore, which slightly adds to the game’s replayability. Sound and music play a significant role in “F.I.S.T.” The soundtrack is atmospheric, fitting perfectly with the game’s dark and industrial theme. The music changes dynamically depending on the situation, ramping up during intense combat and calming down during exploration as you would imagine. The sound effects are decent as well.

Navigating Technical Terrain

One area where I had some issues was with the controls. The game is designed with a controller in mind, and playing with a keyboard felt cramped. My hands were too close together, and it was difficult to perform some of the more complex maneuvers. The game does include a warning about this on the loading screen, but I didn’t realize how much it would affect my experience until I switched to a controller. Once I did, the controls felt much more responsive and intuitive. This made a significant difference and made the game easier, so I naturally switched back to the keyboard and beat the whole game on it!! If you want more challenge, use the keyboard!

Another area that needs improvement in F.I.S.T. is the user interface. It feels clunky and unintuitive. Navigating through the menus is awkward as you can’t use mouse clicks, making the process more tedious. The map is also problematic; you can’t zoom in or out, which makes it difficult to see your surroundings. This becomes especially frustrating when trying to locate specific hidden areas or backtrack to previous locations. A more detailed map with improved navigation options would be highly beneficial.

Smooth Performance, Hidden Depths

Performance-wise, “F.I.S.T.” runs exceptionally well on my system with an Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti. I consistently enjoyed a stable 60 FPS throughout my playthrough. The game loads quickly, and I encountered no crashes or major bugs. Even in heavily detailed areas, there were no noticeable frame drops, providing a smooth and seamless gameplay experience.

“F.I.S.T.” also includes some interesting hidden elements and Easter eggs. Exploring every nook and cranny of Torch City often rewards you with lore, upgrades, or even hidden bosses and skins! Yes, that’s right, there are a couple of skins you can get, my favorite is the pink fist. You get the skins by finding hidden posters and trading them in. These secrets add another layer of depth to the game and make exploration feel more rewarding. One particularly interesting fact is that the game’s world is inspired by both Eastern and Western cultures, blending them to create a unique environment.

A Tale of Progress and Puzzles

Reflecting on my time with “F.I.S.T.,” I can say that it is a standout title in the Platformers genre. The combination of its stunning visuals, challenging combat, and engaging story makes it a must-play for fans of action platformers. The game’s difficulty can be intimidating at first, but with practice and perseverance, it becomes incredibly fun. The variety of weapons and upgrades keeps the gameplay fresh, and the numerous secrets and side quests add to its longevity. For me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of “F.I.S.T.” is the sense of progression. As you explore Torch City and defeat enemies, you constantly acquire new abilities and upgrades that make Rayton more powerful. The design of traps, is another standout feature, and it deserves its place in my review big time.

The game includes a variety of traps that challenge your reflexes and problem-solving skills. My favorite traps are found in the mines, where stepping on ropes with bells attached to them triggers a cascade of arrows. This clever design showcases the game’s attention to detail. The way these traps are integrated into the environment enriches the exploration experience, making each area feel more immersive and dangerous. Other memorable traps were in the underwater base, where I was dodging something that reminded me of those WW1 underwater bombs we all saw in the movies, while constantly getting hit by a laser-beaming mechanical octopus or whatever that thing was.

Intricate Puzzles and Engaging Characters

The puzzle design in F.I.S.T. was also pretty good. One of my favorite puzzle segments is found in the Cat’s Sanctuary. Here, you must transport a crucial door-opening device across the map, navigating a series of traps and battling monsters that are intent on destroying it. This puzzle requires careful planning and quick reflexes, as you need to avoid obstacles and fend off enemies while ensuring the device remains intact. This segment is a testament to the game’s ability to combine problem-solving with action, offering an immersive experience. The puzzles are challenging yet not too hard and obnoxious. The game’s story is another strong point.

It unfolds gradually, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged. The characters are well-developed, each with their motivations and backstories. Rayton himself is a compelling protagonist, and his journey from a retired warrior to a hero fighting for his city is pretty cool. One aspect of “F.I.S.T.” that I particularly appreciated is the balance between combat and exploration. The game doesn’t just throw waves of enemies at you; it also encourages you to explore the environment, solve puzzles, and uncover secrets. The game also includes a variety of enemy types, each with their unique attacks and behaviors. This variety keeps the combat interesting and forces you to adapt your strategies. From robotic soldiers to massive mechanical beasts, or mine demons, you got it all.

Conclusion: A Diesel-Punk Delight

“F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch” is a fantastic addition to the Platformers genre. Its stunning visuals, challenging combat, and engaging story make it a must-play for fans of action platformers. The game’s balance of combat and exploration, along with its variety of enemies and bosses, keeps the gameplay fresh and exciting. While the keyboard controls can be a bit cramped, switching to a controller solves this issue and makes the game much more enjoyable. The cleaner user interface and accessibility options would be a plus, but it won’t hurt the overall experience that much.

Saints Row The Third: A Hilariously Chaotic Open-World

A Heist Gone Wrong Setting the Tone

From the moment I stepped into the shoes of the Third Street Saints’ leader, I knew I was in for something different. The bank heist went wrong that starts the game sets the tone perfectly, similar to GTA V! This wasn’t going to be your average open-world experience. I was immediately thrown into the deep end, and I enjoyed most of it.

Building an Empire Property and Strategy

Taking over Steelport became a major part of my playthrough. It’s not just about completing main story missions, there is much more to it, I found myself engaged in a variety of activities. The property acquisition system quickly became one of my favorite aspects. I’d spend time buying up businesses for a steady income and unique bonuses or splurge on new weapons and vehicles. This constant decision-making aspect or you could say strategy kept me involved throughout the game.

Weapons of Mass Hilarity Combat Variety

The combat in Saints Row The Third is where I found some of the most fun. The gunplay feels responsive, with an arsenal that ranges from standard pistols and assault rifles to outlandish sci-fi options like the Mollusk Launcher and the Apoca-Fist. This variety kept combat interesting for me, even after many hours. I found myself seamlessly transitioning from shooting to melee combat to using superpowers (unlocked later in the game) without missing a beat. The wrestling-style takedowns I could perform on enemies became a favorite of mine.

Vehicular Mayhem Cars as Weapons

Vehicle combat is another highlight. Unlike many open-world games where cars feel like mere transportation, here they’re weapons. The “car surfing” mechanic, where I could leap onto moving vehicles and hijack them mid-drive, never got old. The progression system kept me going in a sense as well. As I completed missions and activities, I earned respect (XP) and cash, which is the main currency. Respect unlocked new abilities and upgrades, while cash let me purchase items and customize my character. These upgrades weren’t just cosmetic; they significantly impacted my gameplay. For example, upgrading my sprint allowed me to run indefinitely, making traversal more enjoyable.

The Awesome Button Elevating Everyday Actions

One of the most unique aspects of the gameplay that I enjoyed is the “Awesome Button” (usually mapped to the sprint button). This action button turns ordinary actions into extraordinary ones. Running becomes parkour, carjacking becomes a flying kick through the windshield, and jumping out of a car turns into an action movie-style roll. It’s a simple mechanic that adds excitement to even the most mundane activities for me.

Wacky and Wild Side Activities Galore

The variety of side activities in Saints Row The Third is impressive, especially for a dated game, and I found myself constantly distracted by them, which made me feel like I was in primary school again, playing GTA on my PS1. From the adrenaline-pumping “Tank Mayhem” where I wreaked havoc in a military tank, to the bizarre “Insurance Fraud” where I threw myself into traffic to rack up medical bills, each activity felt distinct. My favorite was “Professor Genki’s Super Ethical Reality Climax,” a deadly game show where I navigated trap-filled rooms while shooting mascots and collecting prizes. These activities were very fun and refreshing, and they ramped up my play time significantly.

Chaos and Customization Crafting Your Identity

The level of customization in this game is also pretty good, I like it a lot because I can customize my weapons and vehicles too. There’s something satisfying about mowing down enemies with a gold-plated assault rifle while driving a funny pink muscle car. The missions are well done. Sure, there’s a main storyline to follow, but how I get there is often up to me. I often found myself getting sidetracked on the way to a mission, engaging in impromptu street battles, or stumbling upon hidden collectibles.

Co-op Carnage Double the Destruction

Co-op play adds another dimension to the gameplay that I enjoyed. Teaming up with a friend turned the already chaotic experience into absolute mayhem. Coordinating attacks, sharing vehicles, and competing for the most outrageous stunts created memorable moments that solo play couldn’t match. I recall a particularly funny session where my co-op partner and I tried to complete a mission using only melee attacks and wrestling moves, turning a simple shootout into a ridiculous WWE-style brawl, and yes we did manage to beat it, I’m not going to tell you how long it took us though!

Air Superiority Vertical Combat Adventures

One of the most memorable gameplay elements for me was the use of airspace. Helicopters, jets, and even a VTOL jet (which I unlocked later in the game) allowed me to take the fight into the air, and it added a whole new dimension to both combat and exploration. The game also features a unique take on fast travel that I found both convenient and fun. Instead of simply teleporting, I could call in my homies to pick me up in a helicopter. This not only got me where I needed to go but could also drop me into the action from above, allowing for dramatic entrances. It made even simple travel feel epic. As I progressed through the game, the abilities I unlocked became increasingly sci-fi-like, resulting in superpowers that let me glide through the air or throw fireballs. These powers opened up new strategies and ways for me to approach challenges, keeping the gameplay fresh even in the late game.

The Final Verdict: A Symphony of Chaos

In conclusion, Saints Row The Third’s gameplay is all about fun. While it may not be the most realistic or grounded experience, it delivers entertainment from start to finish. Even years after its release, I still find myself coming back to it when I need a dose of wild chaos. There’s still nothing quite like Saints Row The Third.

Mastering the Combat Dance

Weplaygames.net Youtube Channel: Victor Vran Diablo-like RPG Game Trailer

Victor Vran is a fast-paced action diablo-like game with RPG mechanics. We control Victor Vran, a demon hunter, navigating through a variety of environments filled with monsters to defeat and loot to collect. The game emphasizes real-time combat, where you must dodge, block, and attack strategically. Weapons, outfits, demon powers, and destiny cards allow for extensive customization of Victor’s abilities and playstyle. Each weapon type (ranging from swords and shotguns to scythes and lightning guns) offers unique attacks and combos, encouraging experimentation with different play styles. The learning curve is balanced, giving an easy start while gradually introducing more complex mechanics and tougher enemies. The game’s approach to character progression, which is tied to gear and cards apart from traditional leveling, adds strategic depth to character building and adaptation.

Crafting Destiny with Cards

A standout feature in Victor Vran is the Destiny Card system. Players earn Destiny Points as they progress, which can be used to equip Destiny Cards. These cards grant various passive abilities and bonuses, such as increased damage, faster healing, or enhanced critical hit chances. This system allows for extensive customization with a non-traditional approach. With a variety of cards to choose from, you can mix and match to adapt to different combat scenarios.

Alchemical Adventures: Gear Transmutation

Another one of the game’s features I must cover is the transmutation system. This system allows us to combine and upgrade the equipment using various transmutation recipes. By sacrificing unwanted gear and materials, I enhanced my favorite weapons and outfits or created entirely new ones. This system helps manage inventory clutter and provides a way for you to obtain powerful and unique equipment. Experimenting with different transmutations to discover potent combinations can be a gamble if you do it randomly, so use the recipe guides in the game!

A Gothic Steampunk Dreamscape

Visually, Victor Vran boasts a Gothic, steampunk aesthetic with detailed environments. The game features diverse locations such as dark dungeons, haunted castles, and cursed towns, each rendered with atmospheric lighting and intricate textures. The environments are not only visually appealing but also interactive, with destructible objects and dynamic lighting. The visual effects during combat, like explosions and magical attacks, are pretty well executed as well and add to the excitement of battles.

Sonic Warfare: Sound and Music

The game’s sound design is something I particularly enjoyed; it is robust, with a compelling soundtrack that creates an intense atmosphere. Voice acting is solid, particularly the protagonist Victor, whose dialogue adds depth to the character, and is, in my opinion, very well narrated. Sound effects, from the clash of weapons to the roars of monsters, are well-executed and enhance the combat experience. The soundtrack, featuring contributions from the legendary band Motörhead in the “Motörhead Through the Ages” expansion, is unique and energetic, so it is a perfect fit for a demon-themed game.

Conquering Alone or Together

Victor Vran offers both single-player and multiplayer modes. In single-player, you can immerse yourself in the story and explore at your own pace. Multiplayer mode allows for cooperative play with up to four players. The multiplayer experience is well put together, with cooperative mechanics that encourage teamwork and strategic planning. I joined friends to tackle challenging dungeons, face tougher enemies, and discover rare loot together, making the multiplayer aspect a significant enhancement to the game’s replayability. Since the game is old, it does get hard to find players to play with, so you might have to join some groups on Steam or recruit some friends.

Dynamic Challenges and Modes

The game introduces new challenges and mechanics across its levels to keep gameplay fresh. You will encounter a range of enemy types, environmental traps, and unique boss battles that require different strategies and sometimes even load-outs, especially in hard mode. Some levels include areas with dynamic weather effects, which definitely adds value.

Diverse Difficulty Modes for Every Player

Victor Vran offers multiple difficulty modes, including Normal (casual), Hard, and eventually Heroic mode. In Normal mode, you can enjoy the story and gameplay at a comfortable pace, with challenges that gradually increase in difficulty. This mode is ideal for newcomers to action RPGs or those looking for a more casual experience. Hard mode, on the other hand, ramps up the difficulty, presenting tougher enemies, more complex combat scenarios, and harsher penalties for failure. This mode is designed for experienced players seeking a more intense and challenging gameplay experience. The difference in difficulty modes adds replayability, as you can start on Normal and later attempt Hard mode for a more rigorous test of your skills. Note: If you start the game on hard mode, you can still change your mind later and switch back to normal mode; it doesn’t work vice versa, though

Heroic mode is an even tougher difficulty setting available after completing the game once. In this mode, enemies are much stronger, have huge health pools, are more aggressive, and have additional abilities, providing the ultimate challenge for those looking to test their skills to the fullest. I still have to complete the heroic mode myself, so do not expect an easy challenge.

Hard and heroic modes also introduce a unique feature called Hexes, my favorite detail in the game, which are modifiers that add disadvantages, increasing the game’s challenge but also the rewards. For example, the “Hex of Time” speeds up all enemy movements and attacks, requiring quicker reflexes and strategic adjustments from time to time. Other Hexes can increase enemy health, cause more frequent critical hits from foes, or even prevent health regeneration. Note that hexes are random from level to level; you can’t choose which ones apply.

Community and Continued Support

Victor Vran has a community, and even though not too active, it is still worth checking out. Online forums and Steam communities are hubs for players to share tips, strategies, and custom builds. While the game doesn’t feature extensive user-generated content tools, the community contributes to its replayability and longevity in a way.

Since its release, Victor Vran has received several updates and expansions, such as the “Fractured Worlds” and “Motörhead Through the Ages” DLCs. These expansions introduce new content, mechanics, and storylines, significantly adding value to the game. The developer, Haemimont Games, has shown responsiveness to player feedback, continuously refining and expanding the game based on community input, from the release all the way up to the 2019-20 patches.

Accessibility and Integration

Victor Vran includes various accessibility options like remappable controls and scalable UI elements. These features helped me make the game more inclusive, accommodating different play styles and preferences. While it lacks some advanced features, the existing options provide a good level of accessibility for most players, including myself.

Victor Vran integrates well with Steam features like cloud saves, achievements, and trading cards, which is important for me, a Steam nerd. Cloud saves ensure progress is synced across devices, while achievements provide additional goals and challenges, which, as we know, can be very important to some of you as well! Although the game doesn’t have extensive mod support, its inclusion of Steam trading cards and achievements enhances overall player engagement. Steam Workshop support could potentially add even more community-driven content, though it is not currently a feature of the game, and probably won’t be as I believe development has halted.

Rock and Roll Meets Demon Hunting

The Motörhead-themed DLC, “Motörhead Through the Ages,” incorporates the band’s music into the game. This adds a rock-and-roll twist to the game, which I find amusing. The expansion was developed with input from Motörhead’s members, adding authenticity to the themed content.

Not Without Its Flaws

Despite its strengths, Victor Vran does have some flaws. The gameplay can sometimes feel repetitive, especially during extended play sessions. Additionally, while the visuals are generally good, some animations and textures could be more polished. These issues are relatively minor and don’t significantly detract from the overall enjoyment of the game, but they are worth noting. Also, I did have some bugs where enemies would not spawn, so I had to restart the map, but yet again, nothing major to be concerned about.

Final Thoughts: A Thrilling Journey

Playing Victor Vran was an interesting experience. The combination of fast-paced combat, deep customization, and a rich, atmospheric world kept me engaged for quite some time, around 32 hours. The game’s cooperative multiplayer mode added another layer of fun, allowing me to play with my friends, which was extremely enjoyable so I urge you to find someone to play with. The possibility of switching between different weapon types and adapting to various combat scenarios and playstyles kept the gameplay dynamic and interesting.

Certain builds can be a bit broken, so my advice is to read some guides on the builds. The hard mode was pretty challenging too, not going to lie, so I am looking forward to the heroic mode! To sum it up, Victor Vran provides a thrilling and immersive action RPG experience with its engaging combat, extensive customization, and atmospheric world. Its community and ongoing developer support enhance its longevity, making it a solid choice For more reviews like this, stay tuned on our page! Game on!
