That Capcom has struck a golden vein with the Resident Evil remakes has long been clear. The remake of the fourth installment is by far the fastest-selling Resident Evil game in the series, and in a short period of time, it’s made it onto the Japanese company’s best-selling games list. Capcom reports more than 9 million copies. With such success, Resident Evil 4 Remake could eventually match other remakes of old classics. The Resident Evil 2 remake has racked up around 14 million copies since January 2019, and the third installment since it was released in April 2020 has racked up roughly 9 million sales.
It’s no surprise that the director of the remake of the fourth installment would want to bring more remakes to current gamers. In the meantime, a full-fledged new installment is in the works under the supervision of Koshio Nakanishi, who is the man behind the highly successful Resident Evil 7 which is also a big seller. Over 14 million copies since its release in January 2017.
