Rumors of a potential Horizon Zero Dawn remaster first surfaced in 2022, but it wasn’t until last week that several news sites took notice of the ESRB’s rating for the remaster on PS5 and PC. Now, there’s finally been official confirmation. That’s because Sony, Guerrilla, and Nixxes announced the remaster during September’s State of Play 2024 and briefly outlined what’s new in the remastered 2017 game. Among the new features is 10 hours of re-recorded motion capture for dialogue, which puts the original Horizon Zero Dawn on par with the sequel Horizon Forbidden West.
Graphics and Technical Upgrades
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will, of course, also boast improved graphics. Mark Cerny appeared after the PS5 Pro announcement with a preview of all sorts of games, but Horizon Zero Dawn didn’t appear. However, it does have native PS5 Pro support, which means better framerate and support for higher resolutions. Sony hasn’t said what to expect in the base PS5 version, though it will include things like Tempest Audio support that weren’t possible on the PS4. The PC version will include a PlayStation overlay with trophy support and has its own feature set, such as ultra-wide resolution support.
Pricing and Release Date
For existing owners of the original game, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is cheaper. For $10, you can get a better version on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam or Epic Game Store). This also applies to fans who added the game to their library during the PlayStation Play At Home event. For others, a $50 price tag awaits. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was released on October 31 this year.
