System Shock Remake Kickstarter Is Live, Has A Demo

The remake (reboot, restart, reinstall, whatever…) of the original System Shock is taking shape quite nicely. Not just that. You, even as a non-Kickstarter-pledger, can actually try it in its pre-alpha cocoon right now just by hopping over to Steam. Simples.

Needless to say, we’re excited. So much so in fact, that we’re no longer able to hold it. The original was, wethinks, better than the more popular sequel. There. Now do your bit.

This remake of System Shock is doing more than just updating the look and feel, but will also keep “true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics to use a modern day engine (Unity).” The project has also enlisted Chris Avellone of Fallout 2, Knights of the Old Republic 2, and other great RPG fame to help bring System Shock back to life.

Bethesda Announce VR Treatment For Fallout 4 & Doom

Doom-Imp-Finisher

I love the new Doom. Not only I believe it’ll dash unthreatened to 2016’s throne, I will call its name any time a debate turns towards favourite games of all time.

Having said that, putting – attempting to, even – a first-person shooter this fast into VR makes me want to:

  1. Vomit violently
  2. Do a ‘told you so‘ dance
  3. Scoff hopelessly over sheer stupidity of the idea

I beseech thee, titans of the industry, stop this madness before it’s too late please.

Stomp, stomp, stomp, here comes VR. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Hines then spoke of how Bethesda plan to “remain a leader” in the VR spectrum, which probably means more games getting similar support down the line.
